BRIEF HISTORY OF TANK DISTRICT
Tank is one of the twenty-five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The word Tank is a derivative from the native word ‘Takk’ which means the final frontier. Tank, once an autonomous state, has remained the border of the mainland India with the mountains and hence named Takk or Tank. Since days immemorial till the coming into being of Pakistan, Tank was ruled by Kattikhel family. They had established peace with the British and in return were granted limited autonomy to rule the state of Takk. Nawab Qutab-ud-Din Kattikhel was the last Nawab of Tank. He also remained president of the Dera Ismail Khan chapter of All India Muslim League. He was elected to the provincial assembly of NWFP in 1933 and became the Deputy Speaker of the assembly. The modern era of Tank began when the status of Tank was raised from the level of tehsil to that of a district of Dera Ismail Khan Division on 1st July 1992.
